ELELS Online- Our Community is Open!

Shanah Tovah- Happy New Year! At this challenging time, our Synagogue is very much open; actively serving and supporting our members and families. We are offering a full range of online activities including Shabbat and High Holy Day services, educational programmes and social activities. Most important, however, is our care network that has been reaching out throughout our community to ensure that everybody has support if they need it. Click here to move to the ELELS Online section of our website, which gives further information about our community’s activities.

We are accustomed to welcoming guests for our High Holy Day services and activities, whether for our main services, study or reflective sessions or for childrens’ services. Non-members are more than welcome to join us (online) this year too and will have the option of joining Zoom streams or watching live on our Facebook page. For more information on our High Holy Day services and activities this year, please click here.

Learn more about our community using the menus above or on the links listed below.

A warm welcome to East London & Essex Liberal Synagogue (ELELS).

We are:

  • A modern, egalitarian, forward looking community.
  • Built on the solid foundations of our two legacy communities.
  • A community built on tradition and heritage- respectful of but not stuck in the past.
  • A new community of like-minded Jews.
  • A Jewish community for the 21st Century.

A browse of our website, which is currently under redevelopment (revisions started April 2020) provides a flavour of who we are and what we offer even under the present exceptional circumstances.

You can find information about all our Religious Services including the different types of Shabbat Services held at ELELS; our Forthcoming Shabbat services; Festival celebrations and Family & Life Events

ELELS also offers a range of Educational activities for all age groups – including EL² , our Cheder for those aged between four and sixteen; Bar/Bat Mitzvah, activities for Tots and preschoolers; as well as Adult Education including Access to Judaism (conversion)classes, Hebrew reading, Modern Hebrew Conversation (Ulpan), Torah study services, a range of speakers and much much more.

On the Events page we also provide information about various wider local community activities, including those provided by Liberal Judaism and progressive religious or communal groups.

For membership enquiries, or for any other queries, please contact our office on administrator@elels.org.uk or 07745790869 (Chair, Stewart Spivack). We’re always happy to help.
