Children’s Education during Covid-19

Cheder Online- on Saturdays

Our Cheder, for children aged 4-13 has now moved online. They meet every Shabbat morning from 9.30-10.45am continuing their curriculum of Jewish Studies and Hebrew on Zoom.

Sessions work as follows:

  • Assembly, led by Headteacher Jonathan Young
  • Individual classes go to breakout rooms for differentiated work, led by their teachers
  • Breaktime, to give the children a chance to socialise on Zoom
  • Assembly, to share the morning's work and wish Shabbat shalom

Tots Shabbat

Tots Shabbat is for the smallest members of our community aged 0-4. These monthly sessions moved online in April too! We held a 30 minute session led by Mich Sampson with songs and stories, concluding with a kiddush on a Friday afternoon. Check our emails and newsletters to find out when the next session will be.

Holiday Activities

In addition to Cheder, our teachers also made use of technology to organise a family Pesach Quiz during the Spring break (see photos below). A range of fun activities were set up based on drama, poetry, artwork and searches all on the theme of the Passover. We plan to hold more family quizzes through the term.

Bar/Bat Mitzvah

Our students looking to have a Bar or Bat Mitzvah ceremony continue to be well supported as they prepare. Those whose dates fall under present social distancing restrictions are given the options which can be discussed with the Rabbi. We are looking forward to our first online Bar and Bat Mitvahs in May/June 2020.
