ELELS invites you to join us in marking Green Shabbat. This Friday we are joining with 7 other Liberal Jewish Communities in marking the occasion and we will be holding our own service on Shabbat morning.
Friday's Schedule is as follows:
6.30pm Kabbalat Shabbat and Service
7.30pm Dinner/Kiddush and Discussion offering the chance to exchange ideas on healthy living
8.15pm Address from Liberal Judaism president Rabbi Dr Andrew Goldstein, who will give a rabbinic response on eco concerns of our times and why being green is important. This will be followed by a talk from Louise Lipman, who lives in the UK’s only eco village – Hockerton Housing Project.
Other participants on Friday include; Nottingham Liberal Synagogue (organisers), Lincolnshire Jewish Community; The Bristol & West Progressive Jewish Congregation; Brighton & Hove Progressive Synagogue; York Liberal Jewish Community; BPS - Birmingham Progressive Synagogue and Leicester Progressive Jewish Congregation.
Nottingham’s Rabbi Tanya Sakhnovich has organised the event. She said: “The subject of the environment and healthy living is so huge that it requires the attention of all of us, not just a few of us. So I am delighted to introduce Green Shabbat into our annual cycle.”

Green Shabbat is a multi-denominational project that is led by the Eco Synagogues project, set up by the Board of Deputies.
