Response to Christchurch terror attack

Rabbi’s Hulbert and Jacobi joined with other communal leaders in leading prayers for the victims  of the Christchurch terror attack and sending a joint statement of solidarity with the Muslim community in Christchurch, New Zealand.

About 300 people attended a vigil in honour of the victims of the New Zealand terror attacks in Stratford where Rabbi David Hulbert was one of the faith leaders that led prayers before a minutes silence – https://www.newhamrecorder.co.uk/news/stratford-vigil-for-new-zealand-terror-attacks-victims-1-5945355

Our Rabbi’s also joined with 20 other local Rabbi’s – from all Jewish denominations – in signing a joint statement of solidarity – https://www.romfordrecorder.co.uk/news/new-zealand-terror-attack-rabbis-1-5944165

While they hoped that their message would be reported in the local media reports, they did not expect it to feature in the Urdu Times in Pakistan – http://www.urdutimesuk.com/index.php?f=p3&slpage=p3 (with a photo of Rabbi Hulbert).

The joint statement reads:

“Our hearts go out to the Muslim communities of Christchurch in New Zealand, following the terrorist crime perpetrated against worshippers during their Friday prayers. Our condolences and sympathies are with the families of those who were murdered, and we offer our prayers for healing to the injured. As leaders of the Jewish community, we stand shoulder to shoulder with our Muslim brothers and sisters in condemning all acts of hatred and violence. We are created in the image of God, each and every one of us. All people of faith must be free to gather in peaceful worship, in security and without fear. Every act of hate and violence against one religious or ethnic minority is an assault on us all, and an affront to the spark of the Holy One within us. May we continue to work together to create peace, tolerance and understanding here in Redbridge and amongst all peoples of this earth”
